Pharmaceutical Chemistry-I ( L-3, P-3 )
General discussion including important physical and chemical properties, medicinal and pharmaceutical uses, storage conditions and chemical incompatibility of the following group if inorganic compounds-Acids, bases, buffers, anti oxidants, gastrointestinal agents, topical agents, dental products, inhalants, respiratory stimulants, expectorants and emetics-antidotes. Major intracellular and extracellular electrolytes. Radiopharmaceuticals and contrast media. Importance of quality control, sources of impurities in Pharmaceuticals, Limits tests.

Pharmacognosy ( L-3, P-3 )
Definition, history, classification, adulteration and evaluation of drugs from natural origin; pharmacopoeial standards; occurrence, distribution, organoleptic evaluation, chemical constituents and therapeutic efficacy of selected natural drugs classified according to their activity; collection and preparation of selected crude drugs; sutures and surgical dressings, Gross anatomical studies of selected drugs.

Biochemistry and Clinical Pathology ( L-2, P-3 )
This subject gives a basic knowledge of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, vitamins and minerals, deficiency diseases and brief concept of enzymes, metabolic diseases and introduction to pathology of blood and urine. The practical consists of simple laboratory tests for the above and for the normal and abnormal constituents of blood and urine.

Human Anatomy and Physiology ( L-3, P-2 )
This is a fundamental medical science which deals with the structure and functions of various systems in the human body. The different chapters are-Scope, terminology, structure of cell, elementary tissues of the body, study of skeletal system, blood, heart, respiratory system, urinary system, C.N.S., A.N.S., digestive system, special sense organs, endocrine glands and reproductive system, brief information regarding disorders of blood, cardio vascular disorders, renal disorders and Oedema.

Health Education and Community Pharmacy (L-2, P-Nil)
This subject is very useful in which Pharmacist should be knowledgeable and participate in programmes promoting Health care. The topics taught are- Concept of health determinants and indicators of Health, Diseases-Concept, natural history, agents and prevention, Nutrition and health, Demography and family planning. First aid environment and health.
Fundamental principles of microbiology, communicable and noncommunicable diseases - causative agent , transmission and prevention. Epidemiology-scope, method, uses, dynamics of disease transmission. Immunity and immunisation-principles of diseases control and prevention.

Pharmaceutical Chemistry – II (L-4, P-3)
Nomenclature of organic chemical systems, nomenclature, chemical structure, uses, important physical and chemical properties of the following groups of organic compound including their stability and storage conditions of the different types of pharmaceutical formulations of these drugs and their popular brand names – antiseptics and disinfectants, antileprotics, antituberculars, antiamoebics, anthelmintics, antibiotics, antimalarials, tranquilizers, hypnotics, general anaesthetics, antidepressants, analeptics, adrenergics, antiadrenergics, cholinergics, anticholinergics, diuretics, cardiovascular drugs hypoglycemic agents, coagulants and anticoagulants, local anaesthetics, histamines and anti-histamines, analgesics, antipyretics and anti-inflammatory agents, thyroxine and antithyroids, diagnostic agents, anticonvulsants, steroids and antineoplastic agents.

Scope; routes of administration of drugs; various processes of absorption of drugs; mechanism of action; pharmacology and toxicology of the drug acting on CNS, ANS, CVS, respiratory system, renal system, digestive system, local anesthetics, mydriatics, autocoids, hormones; chemotherapy of microbial and protozoal diseases; chemotherapy of cancer; disinfectants and antiseptics.
